Here is an 1850's style double barrel caplock shotgun. These are available in either 20 or 12 gauge.

These are in the London style, with a scrolled triggerguard and and a raised cheekpiece.

There is a hooked breech for easy takedown and cleaning. The barrels secure to the stock with a wedge key.

The triggerguard is correct for the first half of the 19th century. The barrels and all of the steel furniture are rust blued. This a traditional method of protecting the finish as opposed to the hot salt bluing of modern guns. The finishing process takes several days and is quite labor intensive.

This style of lock is called a "bar lock" because the top of the lockplate is flat. On some mid century British guns, there is a decorative flat bottomed scroll bar that the lock would align to, hence the name. Eventually the bar itself was done away with, but the name stuck.

Here is a view of the raised cheek piece. London styled guns were simple and classy at the same time.

The buttplate has a short, pointed tang which remained popular throughout much of the 19th century.
