Here is an interesting 19th century pistol. Originally a flintlock, these were converted to percussion and renamed the 1850 pattern.

Of particular interest are the cannon muzzle and spurred trigger guard. The .62 caliber smoothbore barrel is 9" long and the overall length is 15 3/4"

The rest of the world simply removed the frizzen, pan and frizzen spring when converting to percussion. Not this time. The Germans reused the spring and fitted a nipple protector in place of the frizzen. This allows the piece to be carried loaded and primed, but with the hammer down. To my knowledge, this is the only pattern military gun on which you see this.

The buttcap has a lanyard loop on it. The triggerguard is a two piece affair, with the triggerplate being steel and the bow itself being brass.
