Here is a fun little pistol! It has a barrel under .50 caliber (they have been coming in about .490) that is only 6" long, but it sports a spring loaded bayonet that is 5" long on top.

The barrel is brass, but the steel parts are all hand forged. This is a 1790's period design. The barrel secures with a key instead of pins.

Here is a close up of the lock. It has a Manton style "rainproof" pan that was trendy at the time.

The triggerguard is hand engraved. There are a pair of these pistols in a cased set on display at the USS Constitution Museum at the Charlestwon Navy Yard. They were owned by one of the ship's Captains. |
