This is the 1777 Pattern French Cavalry Carbine. It is a small, light musket. The perfect size for smaller framed shooters like smaller women and teens.

The .69 caliber smoothbore barrel is 30 1/2" long, and the overall length of the gun is 45".

The lock follows the 1777 pattern and has a brass pan set at an angle. The angled pan is so the pan is level when held at the "prime" position.

Besides the length, the sling bar sets this apart as a cavalry carbine. you'd wear a sling over your shoulder and clip it to the ring that slides along this bar, then stick the muzzle into a socket on the saddle so you could carry the gun hands-free.

The triggerguard is similar to that on the 1777 Infantry musket, only cast out of brass.

Here is the wrist area. The carbine has a very short length of pull, only 12" Perfect for short-armed shooters.

To prove the point about the carbine being sized for smaller framed shooters, here is my then-8 year old daughter, Caleigh, taking aim with it at the range. It was still a little big for her at the time, but you get the point. |
