Here is a neat new early musket. It's a commercial trade gun, circa 1690-1730. It has a 42" barrel in .69 caliber smoothbore.

"Work" guns this early typically didn't have a sideplate. This gun weighs 8.4 lbs. It has a wooden rammer and is all steel mounted. |

Here's the lock. It is a true doglock in that there is no half cock notch on the tumbler. The dog holds it in half cock. There is an external bridle to strengthen the frizzen screw and speed up lock time. |

It has very nice lines. The comb leads gracefully down to the flat steel buttplate. |

Here it is from underneath. The simple triggerguard is typical of the era. Another early feature is that the tang screw comes up from the bottom. |
